Deep Dive in Wajima

Wajima is one of the most wellknown cities in Noto peninsula because of the worldly known Wajima Lacquer crafts, UNESCO World Heritage site, Shiroyone Senmaida, and the traditional Ama divers to name a few. 

This tour is for the visitors like you who want to experience them all in an authentic way.  

You will have an artistic experience with a Wajima craftsman at the private workshop, talk with Ama divers on a private tour, and learn the diversity of local foods from a Michelin chef! You will also have a private guide to understand the history and many unique traditions of Wajima.

 Ama Diver Private Tour

This is a 2-part tour in Wajima to meet traditional Ama divers. You will talk with the divers and tour the port, then watch them dive from a boat the next morning. Depending on the season, you may also receive fresh shellfish, like abalone, or seaweed.

Chinkin “Sunken Gold” Experience

Visit the workshop at the home of a Wajima lacquerware craftsman, and learn how he uses a blade to carve patterns into the lacquer surface and inlays gold powder.

Field-to-Table with a Chef

Join Michelin Chef Tominari to catch local fish and crab or harvest seasonal produce with local farmers. Chef Tominari will prepare your gathered items, along with other fresh local ingredients, into a beautiful Japanese full-course meal for you to enjoy.

Learn the history of Wajima Lacquer and understand the process of creating this traditional craft.

Decorate Wajima Lacquer plate with gold. The local artisan will teach you step by step!

Ama Diver Private Tour Part 1: Talk & Walk Tour with Ama Diver

Meet the Ama diver in Wajima. Ama diver is a traditional diver who only uses simple snorkeling tools to harvest shellfish or seaweeds. In this 2-part tour, at first, you will have a chance to talk with Ama divers and walk around the port to learn their work and life styles, then the next morning, you will go on a small fishing boat to see the Ama diver in action. Depending on the time of the year, you will be able to receive shellfish such as abalone, or seaweeds such as mozuku from the Ama diver.

Sail from Wajima Port to see the Ama divers in action.

 

Shiroyone Senmaida Guided Tour

Walk along the rice field with a guide to learn history and many interesting stories.

From Field to Table with a Michelin Chef

Catch the local fish and crab from the river with a local Michelin Chef, Mr.Tominari, or harvest seasonal fruits, vegetables or mushrooms with the local farmers. These foods will be prepared by Mr. Tominari, with many other local ingredients that are freshly picked or wildly harvested. You will enjoy a beautiful Japanese style full meal at the end.

Depending on the season, the field activities will change. For example: Picking Edible Herbs (Mar-Jun), Fruits and Vegetables (Apr-Nov), Crabs and Fish (Jun-Dec), Mushroom (Oct-Jan).
